Quezon City’s Power Up Climb

In the Philippines, wall climbing is probably the less popular sport or workout routine for most, but it’s definitely enough to get your adrenaline going and having a full-body exercise!

Wall Climbing was something I never would have thought of doing. I mean, I’m not exactly a sporty person, plus I’m afraid of literally everything. Heights, water, insects, you name it. So when my friends decided to try this out, why the heck not?

Located at 690 Tandang Sora Avenue, Quezon City, Power Up Climb is open from 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm daily for climbing enthusiasts and newbies.

Aside from wall climbing, Power-Up Climb also has an area for doing warm-ups and working out. They also have lockers in case you need a secure place to keep your belongings as well as a changing and shower room for males and females.

Before you start climbing, you’ll be asked to read the rules and regulations as well as some commonly used terms in climbing. “Climbing” is to signal the start of a climb, “Climb on!” is the reply to climbing and that he/she can start climbing, “Tension” is to increase the tension on the rope, and many more. These words are crucial for the climbers and their partners, the belayers.

In Power-Up Climb, each climber is paired up with a belayer. A belayer is someone who supports the climber by holding his/her entire weight with little effort and easing up the fall, in case he/she does fall.

Don’t panic if everything doesn’t make sense right now. There are a number of instructors and experienced climbers who will guide you throughout and teach you all you have to know. You’ll first be briefed on the different equipment that they have and how to use them, after which you’ll be taught the role and tasks of a belayer. Once you’re used to the belaying process, you’re set to climb!

I was really scared the entire time and felt that my shoes weren’t exactly fit for wall climbing. Thanks to my friends and some of the instructors coaching me and cheering me on, I was able to reach the top. Whew!

And that’s me, my friends Patrice, April and Pauline (not in the picture). I was only able to climb to the top once since I had to run some more errands for my parents that day. Even if it was only one round, my arms and legs really felt tense afterwards. Guess it’s a sign to start working out!

You can check more about them here for their contact information and other branches such as in Bonifacio Global City and Centro Atletico.
