Quezon City’s Ludo Cafe
Probably one of the firsts, if not the first, board game cafe in the Philippines, Ludo not only offers a place for gaming but also sells games and accessories – at least the board / card type of games.
Ludo Board Game Bar & Cafe is situated at No. 26 Scout Torillo St. Corner Scout Fuentabella near Tomas Morato Avenue in Quezon City.
We arrived at Ludo around 3:00 pm and while there were only 3 occupied tables, the rest were reserved for the night. As what we’ve done in On Board Cafe, we asked if we’d be allowed to use one of the reserved tables since we won’t take long.
The interior’s honestly not as amazing as other cafes, probably because Ludo QC has been around for a while. Despite that, the place is still comfortable for gaming; although, it can get really loud – which gave me and my friends a possible business idea!
Like with other board game cafes, every person has to order either a food or a specialty drink from their menu. Since we just came from lunch at Frazzled Cook, we only made room for desserts here.
For my specialty drink, I ordered the Salted Caramel Milkshake which came with a metallic straw. It’s the first time I was served one so it felt weird and the opening was small… The Salted Caramel’s just your usual milkshake, nothing special.
The first game we played was Exploding Kittens. It’s similar to the Filipino card game, unggoy unggoyan, or “Old Maid”. Basically, you have to avoid getting the “Exploding Kitten” by utilizing various tactics.
The next one was Halli Galli. This one’s a game of speed, reflex, and mathematical prowess. In this game, each player places a card on the table with different symbols. When these symbols add up to 5, the first one who rings the bell gets all of the cards that have been placed. Last one holding all the cards win!
Now that I’ve been to Ludo and On Board, maybe I’ll try taking a look at other board game cafes as well…
