Ortigas’ Ye Dang
Ye Dang is a Korean casual-dining restaurant located at 88 Meralco Avenue, Ortigas.
Ye Dang’s interior isn’t as fancy or as high-end as restaurants in the malls; and they need not be that way because Ye Dang has it’s own rustic, wood-lands-like charm for its interior and is very appropriate for an intimate dining experience. The place is quite big and could fit probably around 50 – 60 people at the same time. Aside from 10 – 15 tables, they also have separate “rooms” for private gatherings.
Tip: The front of Ye Dang could accommodate around 5 – 6 cars for parking.
Like in other Korean grills, Ye Dang has individual exhausts readied for each table. Even though you have this, you’re still going to smell like food when you get out. You might also want to sit near the fans since it’s going to get pretty hot when they start cooking the food in front of you.
It was my first time seeing and using stainless steel chopsticks and it was definitely much harder than using the wooden or plastic version. Aside from how thin the chopsticks were, it was quite slippery too. Having thinly sliced meat and noodles didn’t help much either. If you’re up to the challenge, feel free to use their chopsticks, otherwise you can always ask for a spoon and fork (like I did).
Some of the food we ordered were: bulgogi (roasted sweet beef), kimchi chigae (kimchi hot pot), tenjang chigae (soy bean paste hot pot), pajeon (pancake), and tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cake). Almost all of the meat dishes were soft, not too rubbery and seasoned just fine. Their pajeon was really good as well.
In addition to those, they have heaps of side dishes such as veggies, potatoes, and dried fish. I specially liked their potatoes, it’s a nice deviation from your usual roasted potato balls! Ye Dang also serves house tea and water so you don’t really have to order any drinks.
Our total bill for 7 pax is at P2800.00. Considering how we weren’t able to ask for seconds of the side dish and how there were still a lot of leftovers, that amount is pretty affordable. The food were great as well; although I’m not a big fan of spicy stuff.
Ye Dang is open from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm daily.
