Pasig’s Dyce N Dyne Board Game Cafe

Dyce N Dyne is located at Unit #3 Rosemarie Elements Building Pasig City and is another one of the increasingly popular chain of board game cafes.

The first floor of Dyce N Dyne has around 5-6 tables for customers, with some of them able to accommodate up to 4 people and the others for at least 6. I think there are also tables available outside in case it’s absolutely needed. The second floor houses a shop where you can buy some of their board games.

Note: Parking isn’t going to be a problem since you can park at the store front or behind the building.

The place’s interior exudes a steampunk vibe with metallic gears and decors adorning the walls and tables.  Most of the things are also grayish or dark in color to match the theme, with a few brightly colored accents to provide contrast.

As with other board game cafes, each person is required to order 1 food AND 1 drink. What differentiates this place from the others is that you are also required to order 1 food OR 1 drink for each person after every 3 hours. This might make it pricey but makes a lot of sense since people could stay here for hours.

For my drink, I ordered the Strawberry Jasmine fruit tea which comes with almond bits. The tea is presented in a flask, which is quite cool if you ask me. As for its taste, well, it’s just your average syrupy concoction and nothing really special. You could try their Milo Dinosaur which I’ve heard is one of their best sellers.

Mysterium Fried Steak. Tenderized beef tenderloin, coated in flavored seasoned flour and pan fried, served with gravy, mashed potato and buttered veggies (P300.00).

For lunch, I ordered their best-selling Mysterium Fried Steak which the crew had recommended.  The steak was indeed tender and easy to eat. It was savory by itself but was even better with the gravy. The mashed potato that came with it was especially good too. Now, if they had a dish which was only the mashed potato, I would get that without any hesitation. It. Was. That. Delicious. And the butter veggies were buttered veggies. `Nuff said.

Seven Ate Fries. French fries topped with cheese and chili con carne (P200.00)

For my snack, I ordered their Seven Ate Fries instead of going for a drink since I was still hungry. Guess I do need carbs after all!

One of the games we played was Dixit. Here, each player becomes a story teller and using any card in their hand, he/she must give a keyword or “story” that best represents the card. Other players then pick a card from their own deck that they think is closest to the story teller’s card. At the end of the round, the story teller will collect all the cards, reveal them, and start a vote. Everyone except the story teller will vote on the revealed cards which they think is the story teller’s. Depending on the outcome, each player gets corresponding points – the first player to reach 30 points win.

Another game that we played was King of Tokyo. This time, you’re a monster who’s trying to take over the city of Tokyo. There are a number of mechanics to this game which I’ll leave to your game master to explain. But the gist of it is that each player’s goal is to be the first to reach 20 stars or to bring everyone else’s health points to 0. Think King of the Hill or even Last Person Standing.

Next up is Cranium. This one’s more of a race-to-the-finish-line type of board game by accomplishing different tasks. These tasks range from answering trivia correctly to drawing things or probably even acting out. This wasn’t exactly our cup of tea so we didn’t bother finishing this one.

The highlight of today’s game was definitely Pandemic, where it’s the board against the players. Interesting right? I couldn’t see how this was initially possible as well! In this game, you and your friends take on different roles (such as medics, researchers, dispatchers, etch, each with their respective skills) to contain diseases (marked by colored cubes) and fine a cure for them (marked by colored bottles). Players win by curing all 4 diseases while the board wins when the outbreak and infection level reaches the maximum. There’re a bit more mechanics to this game, so once again, just ask your friendly game coaches. This game is highly recommended!

We arrived at around noon and the place was empty but come 1:00 – 2:00 pm, the place got packed and had gotten rowdy. So if you’ll be coming a little later, reservations are advised. Also, special thanks to our game coach JC! He was very accommodating and super helpful to everyone that day.
