Sofitel’s Spiral Buffet
Featuring 21 different food ateliers, Spiral is Manila Hotel’s dining option for their stay-in guests and walk-in customers.
One can find Spiral Buffet in the luxurious Sofitel Hotel at the CCP Complex, Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City. From the hotel’s reception, you’ll have to take the escalator down one floor to reach Spiral. That, or you could take the stairs and make a “grand” entrance. For this one though, make sure you have friends to take a picture of you.
Their cuisine ranges from Japanese, Chinese, Singaporean, Italian and Thai to name a few. Aside from those, you also have the famed Cheese Room as well as the Cold Cuts section. Lastly, they also have Chocolatiers and Patisseries.
The Salad and Appetizer Section . I’m not really fond of do-it-yourself salads, so I skipped this area. Same with appetizers.
Some of the meat they serve. In addition to the usual ham, pork and chicken, they also offer lamb, beef and duck. Liksewise, there’s the Peking Duck Oven section which is quite famous, specially in Chinese cuisine. Sadly, I learned about it late and wasn’t able to get some. If you’re adventurous, you can also try foie gras. I read a few things on how it’s made but still wanted to try it out once. It didn’t taste bad, but I didn’t particularly like it either.
The Filipino section. My friends particularly liked their sinigang.
Some of the seafood they serve. I’m not really sure which section this is since it’s next to the meat. Right across this one, is another section serving shrimp, shells and more crabs.
The Cheese Room. I honestly have no idea what kind or type of cheese these are. I probably wouldn’t even be able to pronounce most of them. Would someone be kind enough to properly introduce them to me one by one? It would help if I learn about how to pair these too!
The Cold Cuts Section inside the Cheese Room. Another mystery to me. The only Cold Cuts I’m used to are the ones from Chinese Restaurants. I didn’t attempt to try these since I was afraid I’d have an upset stomach after.
The La Patisserie. There are probably only a few people who eat pastries in buffets. Breakfast, sure. But lunch and dinner?
The Desserts Section. Who can resist any dessert? Aside from ice cream, they offer the usual panna cotta, crème brûlée, fondue, and gelatin. They also have local desserts such as halo-halo, puto bumbong, and bibingka. My friends gushed about how their puto bumbong was great so I tried it as well. I ended up ordering it thrice!
To be honest, I didn’t have any expectations since it was my first time at a high-end buffet. As a matter of fact, I felt like my taste buds weren’t ready for this. For me, it was enough for the experience. Since we had MetroDeal’s voucher, the price per pax was at PHP 1770. Still, we had to add an additional PHP 300 because our reservation was on a Sunday dinner. Truth be told, I don’t think I’ll ever come back here on regular rates.
Spiral is open daily from 6:30 am – 10:30 am for breakfast, 12 noon to 2:30 pm for lunch, and from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm for dinner. For more information, you can check out their webpage here.
