Maginhawa’s Black Scoop Cafe
Black Scoop Cafe is located at 101 Maginhawa Street, Teachers Village, Quezon City and offers tasty desserts such as sundaes, lattes, and frappes.
The first time I heard about Black Scoop Cafe was when Spot.ph published an article here. Just by looking at the headline, I knew I had to try it. So I shared the post on Facebook and asked who of my friends could go with me. My friends Pauline, Demi and April were available, however Sandy had a dentist’s appointment. I also invited Jan since it has been a while and figured he would need a break.
I scheduled our day out on a stormy Saturday at 11:00 am. Even after the rain check, they were all still up for it, so off we go! Although they offer hot meals, Black Scoop Cafe is mostly known for desserts so we decided to have lunch elsewhere.
Initially, we wanted to eat at Samgyupsalamat’s Maginhawa branch. However, upon getting there, I found out that they were closed. After consulting with my friends, we decided to eat at Romantic Baboy, another unlimited Korean BBQ place. Since everyone else in the area had a similar idea, we ended up waiting for around 2 hours before we could get a table! The food was worth it although service time was a little slow.
After stuffing ourselves with so much meat, we walked next door towards Black Scoop Cafe. Their sundaes range from PHP 90.00 to PHP 120.00 depending on the topping and crunches. The toppings are basically syrups such as winter melon, Okinawa, caramel, etc., while the crunches are add-ons such as Oreo bits, marshmallows, pearls, etc.
Since we went there with the milk tea sundaes in mind, I ordered the milk tea swirl with Okinawa topping and Oreo crunch. It had an interesting and refreshing taste so I really loved it. The sundae itself wasn’t too sweet so the topping made up for it. On the other hand, the crunch offered a different flavor and texture with every “bite”. As soon as I finished, I went for another!
For the second round, I went with black Mascarpone swirl with mango topping and Toblerone crunches. The mango topping tasted artificial but it wasn’t too bad. It was also my first time trying out Mascarpone so I can’t exactly figure out how to describe it. Overall, this was a good choice as well.
If you’re asking me which of the two is better, I say try both! After all, I’m sure one isn’t going to be enough.
