Making the Most Out of Your Bill Payments
Bill payments are probably one of the biggest signs of adulthood, whether they’re phone, electric, internet, or water bills, all of us have to go through them at some point.
Even during a lockdown, our bills will continue to arrive. Regardless of whether we decide to avail of the payment holiday or not, in the end, we still have to pay them. But this doesn’t mean we have to be bitter and watch our money go away. In fact, there are ways to get more of our money back! Here are some which you might find useful.
1. Using MVP Rewards before making bill payments
I’ve written about MVP Rewards before on this post. Since then, they’ve added a few more partners such as EasyTrip, Cignal, Caltex and even Makati Medical Center.
EasyTrip used to have a partnership with Philippine Airlines and had Mabuhay Miles as their rewards before but they switched to MVP Rewards. This is probably to reduce the cost and to keep things under the same corporate umbrella.
With MVP Rewards, you basically register all your accounts under them and pay your bills or top up your accounts as usual. This can be done via payment centers, payment apps, and online or OTC banking. Every transaction either earns you points or rebates which you can use to exchange for load, promos, items, or even donations!
2. Using RebateMango and Lazada App for bill payments
I’ve also written about RebateMango here so here’s how to use it together with Lazada for paying your bills!
First, you must have an account and the app for both RebateMango and Lazada. Make sure that both accounts are also logged in.
Next, open the RebateMango app.
Search for Lazada and select “Get Deals Now”. This will open up the Lazada app.
Select “Load, Bills & eCoupon”.
Choose “Pay Bills” and then select the proper category; after which, select the appropriate merchant. Go through the payment procedures and you’re done!
After a few days, your transactions will appear on your RebateMango dashboard containing a number of details such as the miles or rebates earned as well as the creditting status.
Also, do remember that for each transaction or bills payment on Lazada, you will have to close both apps and restart the process. This ensures that the transaction is logged properly each time. Sure, it’s a hassle but the miles or cashback are definitely going to be worth it!
Note: On a usual day, Lazada would charge a service fee for bills payment either on a fixed amount or a particular percentage. However, because of the lockdown, they’ve removed the fees.
3. Using an EastWest KrisFlyer Mastercard for paying bills online
I’ve similarly written about the EastWest KrisFlyer Mastercard early this year and how I love the multiplier for their online transactions.
By going through a biller’s online portal (or through the RebateMango-Lazada combo!), your transactions will be tagged under online spends and thus get the “3 KrisFlyer miles for every PHP 36.00 spend”!
So far, these are the hacks that I know of. There is another one under PayMaya but it came as a promo and is no longer available.
How about you? Do you know of any hacks similar to these? Do share them on the comments down below!
