Of Discord Servers and Reddit Threads
Information on financial literacy can sometimes be found on the most surprising sources such as Discord and Reddit.
Financial literacy is probably one of the more important skills that one needs in life but isn’t really taught formally. In the Philippine setting, not only are resources on these scare, some are muddled with misinformation or even hidden agenda. Thankfully, there are several platforms where people can talk about financial literacy, share information and opinions, and collaborate on steps leading to financial freedom. The benefit of having a community like this is that you can discuss information and data as well as correct any information that must be corrected. You can find these communities on platforms such as Discord and Reddit.
Discord
Originally made for gamers to communicate, Discord has now branched out to other communities. Currently, I’ve joined the PH Invest and Credit Card Hacks servers. The PH Invest server contains various topics from personal finance to real estate to stocks while the Credit Card Hacks contains information on credit card usage, electronic payment systems, and banking products and services.
Both have fairly active users from newbies to veterans and my experience has been really educational!
In addition to the Discord server, PH Invest (r/phinvest/) has its own subreddit too. I’m also a frequent visitor of PH Money Saving (r/phmoneysaving/) so you can check that out as well. Topics in PH Money Saving are quite varied. You can find people asking whether an item is a good buy or where one can find a good sale!
Aside from these two, you can also visit PinoyExchange. However, the discussion aren’t as interesting and informative as the ones in Reddit and Discord. People aren’t as active in PinoyExchange as the ones in Discord and Reddit too.
Note: While everyone there is more than happy to answer your questions, make sure you read the pinned information as well do a quick search first. A little effort goes a long way!
