Makati’s Zubuchon

Cebu’s famous Zubuchon opens its first Luzon branch at Makati!

With a large, well-lit sign, it isn’t difficult to spot Zubuchon along Talisay Street, San Antonio, Makati City.

Note: There’s a fair amount of parking space in front of the restaurant where you can park for free. In case it’s full, you can also park across the street and just tip the caretaker. I think we tipped him around PHP 20.00?

We went there on a Saturday at around 7:00 pm. The place was already/still full at that time and we were 3rd in waiting. While browsing through their menu, I overheard a customer and a service crew chatting. According to the crew, waiting customers aren’t allowed to place orders in advance and that they will only accept orders when seated. I’m not too keen on the rationale behind it, but I’m guessing it’s to keep the food quality good or the lechon crispy. Either way, I would want my food freshly cooked  as well; unless I’m extremely hungry of course!

After a few minutes of waiting, we were finally seated! When I asked for a lechon place that would bring the best of CNT and Rico’s together, Zubuchon delivered. Most of the people we encountered in Cebu mentioned those 3 places as their top picks for the best lechon.

Original Zubuchon, Medium (PHP 590.00). The meat was soft and seasoned just right while the skin was crispy. Although this wasn’t the boneless variety, there was still an ample amount of meat to enjoy. The medium-sized order was adequate for a party of 4 as well.

Zubuchon Sisig (PHP 220.00). Again, a somewhat spicy dish. I still couldn’t eat a lot of this even after removing the bits of red pepper.

We also ordered a plate of rice and a few drinks to go with them. That was definitely a hearty dinner!
