2026 Update: By-Invite Cards For The Affluent

Normal people receive their credit cards in plain old envelopes. The affluent? They get an entire unboxing experience.

From oversized presentation boxes to elaborate welcome kits, these cards announce their positioning before the cardholder even sees what is inside. But they already know. They know they are getting something heavy, shiny, and reassuringly exclusive.

Beyond the spectacle, however, are the actual benefits. But do affluent cardholders even care about them or is the card itself already the benefit?

Honestly, I don’t think we’ll ever find out. The banks, however, are more than happy to tease the rest of us. They know we want in or, at the very least, aspire to. And this year, the red carpet has become noticeably more crowded, with more banks rolling out by-invitation or relationship-gated cards of their own. Naturally, they have graciously revealed the perks, privileges, and benefits reserved for those fortunate enough to make the guest list.

So let us take a closer look at the cards made for the affluent and see how much it is we really need to be invited.

Other cards that have a total relationship balance requirements are EastWest Bank’s Priority Visa Infinite (PHP 2.5M TRB) and Maybank Premier’s Visa Infinite (PHP 3.5M TRB).

BPI, meanwhile, appears to be brewing one more card this year: the BPI Signature Wealth Card. Its name has already slipped into the bank’s promotional materials, but the important details remain a mystery. By invitation only? Exclusive to Wealth clients? Metal? For now, BPI is keeping us in the dark.

Ultimately, cards for the affluent are not always designed to deliver the highest return on every peso spent. Some do offer genuinely strong rewards, travel privileges, and relationship benefits; but with others, the exclusivity may be the benefit itself. The invitation, the heavy packaging, the unusual material, and the feeling that not everyone can simply apply are all part of what the cardholder is receiving.

Whether these cards are truly worth aspiring to is another matter. But should an invitation ever arrive, I doubt many of us would refuse the unboxing.
